I.S. HR Supports KidSmart's Push for Pencils
Story by Meghan Maguire: Senior Writer, Employee Communications
The I.S. Human Resources team ensures that employees have the right tools and training to succeed. When not helping employees get ahead at Enterprise, this team helps provide impoverished students throughout St. Louis with the basic school supplies necessary to get ahead in the classroom.
For the past three years, the team has volunteered at KidSmart Tools for Learning. KidSmart is a local nonprofit organization that operates a free educational supply store in Bridgeton, where teachers from eligible schools can shop for free for their students. In preparation for the new school year, KidSmart is sponsoring a major Push for Pencils campaign aimed at collecting consumable items used in primary education. Every August bins are distributed around Clayton and in St. Louis County to collect what are known as the "fab five": glue, markers, crayons, paper, and pencils for students in need. The back-to-school drive helps teachers provide many students with these vital supplies, which teachers so often must purchase themselves.
The Enterprise Foundation was instrumental in helping KidSmart open its doors in 2002. Assistant Vice President of I.S. Kim McCurdy joined its board of directors shortly thereafter.
